Tornado Outbreaks are Becoming More Common

Outbreaks are large scale weather events that can last one to three days and span huge regions. Recently according to a new study, the average number of tornadoes during outbreaks have significantly increased, the average number of tornadoes per outbreak rose from about 10 in the 1950’s to about 15 in the past decade. The variability around that average rose four times faster. In North America, most of the death and destruction inflicted by tornadoes occurs during these outbreaks. Although researchers are still not 100% why this is happening, they said the can’t blame climate change. However, the warming planet could be shifting weather patterns across the Unites States and triggering more tornadoes. CampoTornado_WilloughbyOwen.jpg

  1. Interesting article! Scientists clearly need to research more into what’s causing these tornadoes, as they have the capacity to cause a huge amount of death and destruction.
